Scriptwriting competition
Bored in lockdown? Exams cancelled? Want to do something creative with a real purpose? Send us your ideas and you could win £250!
Round 1: Open call
Entries for round 1 closed on 31st May 2020. We will be in touch with all the young writers who sent us their ideas soon. |
Round 2: The shortlist
We will ask for a detailed breakdown of each scene in your puppet play, and a full draft of the first scene.
Round 3: The finalists
We will work with each of the finalists to create a script that can be used in our projects. Every finalist who works with us and produces a script of a high enough standard will become a winner.
The prize: £250 and see your show performed
Each winner will have their play produced and performed as part of one of our primary school performances. They will receive £250 when their play is performed, and free tickets to the performances.
Winners' scripts will be included in our library and offered to schools from January 2021.
After the first performances, every time a school chooses it for their puppet project, the writer will receive £250 in royalties.

The YPPT retains the right to choose the number of winners. Decisions will be made by a panel of project leaders and writers who are familiar with YPPT projects. All decisions are final and correspondence over the panel's decisions will not be entered into.
Winners will each receive £250 when their script is first performed at a school, and a further £250 each time a school chooses their script for a project (royalty payments). All prize money and any future royalties are payable when the production begins rehearsals. This may be as late as June 2022 for the initial prize. No other prizes will be offered.
The copyright of new stories (and in the case of abridgements the text of the script) will rest with the scriptwriters but the YPPT reserves the right to use the scripts in perpetuity provided that the royalty is paid. Image rights of all productions will remain with the YPPT.
